He did not weaken in faith

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was already as good as dead (for he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sara's womb" (Romans 4:19 NRSV).

Faith does not ignore reality, but it looks to God's promises. So Abraham had no doubt about God's promise by considering the state of his body and that of his wife Sara, but he believed in God. Because of that he was made righteous (Genesis 15:6) and became the father of many nations (Romans 4:17).

If we look at God's promises and not our circumstances, we will see God's promises fulfilled. Our faith will be strengthened and we will give glory to God. For He who gives the promise is all powerful to fulfil it.
