The just shall live by faith

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"For in him is shown God’s justice in faith by faith, as it is written: The just will live in faith" (Romans 1:17).

Faith is the substance, the foundation of the things one hopes for and the evidence of things unseen. Jesus incites our faith and leads it to perfection. Our Faith, therefore, rests on a threefold foundation.

  • in the past: we receive the blessing of Abraham (the Holy Spirit) by becoming righteous in the sight of God through the work of Jesus-Christ on the cross (Galatians 3:6-14),

  • in the future: Jesus-Christ must return and we will receive an abundant reward because of our faith, so long as we persevere to the end (Hebrews 10:32-39),

  • in the present: the Gospel is the power of God for all who believe, and the justice of God’s kingdom is gradually revealed to us as we grow from strength to strength in our faith, so that we may live by faith (Romans 1:16-17).
