Selah

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"And let them know that God rules in Jacob to the ends of the earth – Selah" (Psalm 59:13).

The Hebrew word selah means 'pause' and is mainly used in the Psalms. The pause is the temporary suspension of reading. It is located at the end of something important as to say, "Please, take time to think about what you just read".

Jesus used the word, "Truly, truly" to draw the attention of His audience before saying a fundamental truth, "Truly, truly, he who believes in me has everlasting life" (John 6:47). Indeed, if we do not pay attention to what will be said, we cannot comprehend the content.
