Pray for joy

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"I thank God every time I think of you. I pray joyfully every time I pray for you" (Philippians 1:3-4).

The apostle Paul’s reference to joy is about the Philippians' fellowship [koinonia] with the Gospel. (Philippians 1:5). Koinonia is intimate sharing, a common undertaking; in this context, it is collectively putting into practice the Gospel of Christ that Paul has announced to them.

Paul is joyful each time he thinks of the Philippians, because he knows the good work the Gospel has produced in them; and that will be completed in them till the Day of the Messiah (Philippians 1:6). That is why the Philippians hold such a high place in the apostle's heart.
