Enter your treasure room

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"But when you pray, go into your room [tameion], close the door and pray to your Father, who resides there in the secret place ; and your Father, who sees you in secret, will reward you openly" (Matthew 6:6).

The Greek word 'tameion' means a place for storing, a room in which to accumulate things, a place where one collects valuables and treasure, a secret room.

When we pray to our heavenly Father, Jesus asks us to go into our inner room and to close its door, for prayer is a time of secret relationship with our Father, about which no-one else needs know.

Our prayer is, at the same time, an occasion for storing up the wish of the Father, so that we can live it out it during the day, and a period of restitution, when we can fill our room with God’s treasures.
