His enemy sowed weeds

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds [zizanion] among the wheat, and went away" (Matthew 13:25 NIV).

The Greek word zizanion comes from the Semitic root zizon which means 'prostitution', 'adoration of false gods', 'idolatry'. Zizanion is the cause of disunity, discord and disorder on earth. This weeds is recognized by the manifestation of its fruits (Matthew 13:26).

It is Satan (the enemy) who sowed discord (the sons of the devil) in the world (Matthew 13:38-39) among the good seed (the sons of the Kingdom of God). However, we do not have to judge these sons of the devil because God wants every man to reach salvation (Titus 2:11). Then weeds will be uprooted by the harvesters (the angels – Matthew 13:39) at the end of this era (at the return of Jesus Christ).
