The Work of Christ

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"John, having heard, in his prison, of the works of Christ, sent two of his disciples to ask him: Are you the One who is to come, or are we to look for another?" (Matthew 11:2-3).

The work of Christ was to bring the Good News to the suffering, to cure the sick, to liberate the captives, and to comfort the afflicted, to declare a year of grace... that is to say, to fulfil the prophetic word of Isaiah 61:1-3. In this way, He did the will of his Father and fulfilled His work.

That is why Jesus was able to say, "Father, I have glorified you on earth, I have performed the work you gave me to do... I have made your name known to men... I have given them the words you gave to me" (John 17:4,6,8).
