For she loved much

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little" (Luke 7:47).

This woman was looking for love, but through her dissolute life she did not find it. However, she recognized Jesus as the true love of God which made her aware of her sins. She had the courage, which is the fruit of repentance, to confront those who judged her life and to come and shed her tears on Jesus' feet.

Her love for Jesus was stronger than human judgement. That is why Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven". Because she loved Jesus with all her heart, she had confidence (faith) He would forgive all her sins. But when we love Jesus half-heartedly and we know Him little, so we expect to be forgiven little. Just as, when we love Jesus little, so we have a little faith!
