Circumcision of the ears

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"To whom shall I speak, whom will I warn, so they may hear? For sure, their ear is uncircumcised and they cannot pay attention" (Jeremiah 6:10 Darby).

Uncircumcised ears makes it impossible to pay attention, and therefore to listen to what God is saying. God’s word becomes shamed, and we cannot take pleasure in it. Circumcision of the ears consists in cutting ourselves off from everything that pollutes out hearing.

In fact, we always have the choice of whether or not to listen to slander, lies, curses, false teaching, etcetera. David said, "Whoever secretly slanders his neighbour, I will silence him… Whoever is deceitful will never come into my presence… Each break of day I will silence all the evil-doers" (Psalm 101:5-8). Sometimes our ear is so hardened that God must break through [karah, dig out, piece, open] to make us hear! (Psalm 40:6).
