Chastisement brings us peace

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"The chastisement for our peace was laid on Him, and by His stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5).

Chastisement is what we deserve when we commit an offence, and there can be no real peace until chastisement has been carried out. For example, sickness can be a result of chastisement.

The grace of God is that Jesus has born the chastisement that we deserve, so that we may have the peace we do not deserve. By His stripes we are freed from both the chastisement destined for us and from the inherent sickness.
