You establish peace for us

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"Lord, you establish peace for us; all [ma'aseh] that we have accomplished you have done for us" (Isaiah 26:12 NIV).

The Hebrew wordma'aseh means 'deed', 'work', 'act', 'what we have to do'; it comes from the Hebrew verb asah meaning 'to do'. At the Creation, God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in this day He rested from all the work He had created, literally "created to do" (Genesis 2:3).

We, ourselves, are the work of Christ, and we were created for good works that God has prepared in advance for us during the Creation (Ephesians 2:10). When we do these works God gives us His shalom. And, in the context of Isaiah 26:4-14, it is a matter of putting our enemy under our feet because he has already been defeated at the cross by Jesus Christ.
