I will bring her into the wilderness

"Therefore behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak to her heart" (Hosea 2:14 Darby).

The wilderness is not the result of chance, but the consequence of a sin, idolatry. God had to bring His people, Israel, to a wilderness because of their spiritual prostitution among the Baals (Hosea 2:4-15). This was His way to reconquer her and to speak to her heart, and finally to exercise His mercy towards her by bringing her back to her country, Eretz Israel, in order to be able to marry her again.

It is the same for us when we are no longer in the ways of God. The Lord then transforms our life into a spiritual wilderness so that He can speak to our heart again. He then proceeds to the reconquest of our heart because He wants us to fulfill our Heavenly Father's plans and to be part of the Bride of Christ.
