The just shall live by faith

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"The Lord answered me and said, 'Set down the vision and engrave it on the tablets, so that those who read it may run. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, and at the end it will speak and will not lie. If it tarries, wait for it, for it will certainly come and will not be postponed... but the just will live by faith'" (Habakkuk 2:2-4 Darby).

The Hebrew nation were also called to live by faith; God’s Word was placed in their hearts, so that they might put it into practice (Deuteronomy 30:14). The nation was thus invited to make a choice:

  • to love God and observe His commandments in order to live and multiply (Deuteronomy 30:16),

  • to be faithful to God to the end in order to dwell in the Promised Land and to prolong its days (Deuteronomy 30:17-20).

The faith of the Hebrew nation was founded, therefore, in the love of God (to hear and obey) and in their faithfulness to Him.
