Therefore remain with us ten days more

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"But her brother and her mother said, 'Let the young woman stay with us a few days, at least ten; after that she may go'" (Genesis 24:55).

Abraham's servant, Eliezer, represents the Holy Spirit who comes to seek the Bride to lead her to Jesus Christ. Eliezer has accomplished his work with Rebecca and must now return to the one who sent him.

But then we see that Laban and his mother are going to look for some pretext to delay Rebecca's departure. It is just the same for us when God sends the Holy Spirit to ask us to make a decision to accept Jesus Christ, and we try to play for time. Let us, like Rebecca, choose to follow Eliezer and who said, "I will go" (Genesis 24:58), and left the very same day!
