The good fight (2)

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called, and for which you have made a good confession before many witnesses" (1 Timothy 6:12).

Here fighting the good fight means taking hold of the eternal life we have been called to; which is available to us from this very day. In order to take hold of eternal life, we must shun the things of this world, and seek the things of God: justice of the Kingdom, piety, faith, selfless love, patience and gentleness (1 Timothy 6:11).

Near the end of his life, the apostle Paul was able to write to Timothy: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept faith. Henceforth, the crown of righteousness awaits me" (2 Timothy 4:7-8). Jesus, himself said to us, "Be faithful to death, and I will give you the crown of life" (Revelation 2:10).
