Taught by God

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God [theodidaktos] to love one another" (1 Thessalonians 4:9).

The Prophet Isaiah announced that all the sons of the heavenly Jerusalem would be disciples of the Lord [limmud, literally 'taught by the Lord']. And Jesus said that His heavenly Father would send in His name the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, who would teach us all things after His departure to heaven (John 14:26).

If we abide in Christ, this Anointing – which is true and not a lie – teaches us all things (1 John 2:27). And this Anointing also gives us a tongue of the learned [limmud] so that we should know how to support by a word in season him who is weary. Then, morning by morning, this Anointing awakens our ear to hear as the learned (Isaiah 50:4).
