The best part

by Vanessa

"If anyone’s work built on the foundation endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he will be saved , yet so as through fire" (1 Corinthians 3:13-15)

When Jesus is welcomed into Martha’s house, it is obvious that she has much to do and is very involved in all the work she has to complete. While this is going on, Mary, her sister, is comfortably ensconced at Jesus’ feet, listening to Him and remaining in His presence.

One understands, then, that poor, over-burdened Martha complains to Jesus that, if, after all, she did all this work, it was only to make Him welcome!

In the same way, we arrange all kinds of meetings, agendas for evangelising, and for spiritual combat, as well as seminars and other biblical courses in order to serve Jesus. It is for Him that all these activities are put in place and occupy most of our time!

But Jesus, even when He saw all the trouble Martha put herself to for Him, replied to her that not only did she worry and upset herself a little too much, but that she had not made the right choice!

While Mary, by choosing to leave everything and to stay near Him to listen to Him and know him better, had made the right choice. And this is the very part that will stand the test of the final judgement’s fire, and which will remain with her, for she has chosen the best part and no-one will take it away from her!

"Mary has chosen the good portion that which is to her advantage, which shall not be taken away from her" (Luke 10:42 Amplified Bible).
